recreational activities in the sound

Cockburn Sound provides a fantastic, safe place for the metro community to enjoy a wide range of recreational activities good for fun with family and mates, physical fitness, general well-being and mental health!

It’s not just Cockburn Sound’s environment that’s on the line – but the future of all these activities. The Sound’s environment is under threat, but there are also a lot of unanswered questions about the impact of the massive increase of mega-tanker shipping traffic the new port will bring. So many of these activities rely on the safe environment the Sound provides – but how safe would you feel in your kayak with a 400-metre long, 270,000 tonne super-tanker bearing down on you?  All of us involved in these activities have a vested and shared interest in protecting the future of the Sound – that’s why many of us have come together to form Save Cockburn Sound. If you enjoy any of the these or other activities in the Sound and care about is future – join us! Also tell us why doing what you love in the Sound is so important to you.
