Have Your Say on the Future of Cockburn Sound

The State Environmental Policy (SEP) for Cockburn Sound is being reviewed — and now’s your chance to help shape how this iconic waterway is protected and managed for generations to come.

The SEP sets the rules for how development, industry and recreation coexist in the Sound. It guides how government balances industrial and port activity with protecting the Sound’s marine life, water quality, and community values — from fishing and sailing to family days on the beach.

The Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER) is seeking community feedback to help shape the revised policy. They want to know how people use and value the Sound — whether that’s catching squid off Woodman Point, fishing the D9, or kayaking its calm, sheltered waters.

Your input will help ensure the new policy recognises that Cockburn Sound is not just an industrial waterway or home for submarines — it’s a treasured community and recreational asset that supports local jobs, tourism and the wellbeing of thousands of West Australians.

Now’s the time to speak up for the Sound and the future of fishing and recreation in your backyard.
